Performances in Berlin, Oxford, Uppsala and Dublin mean a busy Spring period for the Smith Quartet . They will be premiering several new Portuguese works as part of their programmes in Berlin and Oxford.

Laurent Pelly makes his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in March, directing a revival of his much-acclaimed production of 'La Fille du Regiment'.

Matthias Pintscher's major new work, 'Osiris', receives its world premiere in Chicago on February 21, followed by performances in New York (Carnegie Hall) and in London by the LSO (Barbican Centre), conducted by Pierre Boulez.

Mark-Anthony Turnage continues his much-valued work as resident composer at Chicago Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. The LPO celebrates their newly extended relationship with several performances of his recent works, and by taking his music on two major tours, to Vienna and the Far East. A new disc is also released this month on the LPO label, with premiere recordings of three works - 'The Torn Fields', 'Hidden Love Song' and 'Twice Through the Heart'.

Mark's firm relationship with the Nash Ensemble is reconfirmed with the London premiere on 12 March of 'Returning', a string sextet commissioned by the ensemble last year.

Thomas Larcher's new string quartet for the Artemis quartet was premiered in Salzburg on January 29, and receives its US premiere in Cincinnati on April 8. Thomas' first Dutch commission, a new work for the Nieuw Ensemble of Amsterdam will be premiered on 1 March at the Concertgebouw/Vara Matinee series.
