THOMAS LARCHER A new work for baritone, violin, cello, clarinet and piano was premiered at Cologne Philharmonie on October 6, performed by Matthias Goerne, Viviane Hagner, Matthew Barley, Martin Frost and Thomas himself. Thomas is putting the finishing touches to his new work for pianist Leif Ove Andsnes with video installation by Robin Rhode - premiering at Lincoln Center the work travels to Europe and the Far East with some 20 performances scheduled.
His stunning work for baritone and ensemble Die Nacht der Verlorenen is given its second and third performances in Porto and Frankfurt later this Autumn, performed by Matthias Goerne.
MATTHIAS PINTSCHER Matthias started the season with a residency as composer and conductor at the Zermatt Festival. Increasingly busy as a conductor, he makes his debut with the Netherlands Radio and Cleveland Orchestras this season. He is working on new pieces for New York Philharmonic players with Thomas Hampson, and a work celebrating the 25th anniversary of the ensemble Klangforum Wien.
MARK-ANTHONY TURNAGE Mark's trumpet concert for Hakan Hardenberger had its German premiere in Berlin at the start of the season, whilst his seminal score Blood on the Floor was performed by Ensemble Modern (who commissioned and premiered it in the mid nineties) at the Krakow Music Festival. Another score entering the repertoire, Scorched will receive its Dutch premiere at the Concertgebouw later this Autumn. Mark is in his final season as resident composer with both Chicago Symphony and London Philharmonic, and is working on a new opera for Covent Garden.
The SMITH QUARTET The quartet is busy performing several concerts of the complete Philip Glass quartets this Autumn, at the festival d'Automne en Normandie, Manchester RNCM and Southampton Turner Sims. They are recording a new album of dance music featuring works by Dennehy, Cutler, Kats Cernin, Finnissy, Nyman, Adams, Fitkin and others.
